LABOUR DEPARTMENT

About the Department:

The Department is concerned with the welfare of the labours who have been working in other than government sector
The department enforces various labour laws and certain powers are provided for the maintenance of peace and tranquility among the employers and employees.

Main Functions

Promotion of welfare & social security of Workers,
Implementation of Welfare schemes & enforcement of labour laws
Registering and Licensing authority under Shops &Establishments Act, Motor Transport Workers Act, Building & Other Construction WorkersCessAct, Contract Labour Act, Building & Other Construction WorkersWelfare Act
Prevention and regulation of Child & Adolescent Labour Act
Conducting Awareness programmesregarding various welfare schemes

Telangana Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board

Established in 2009 under B&OCW(RE&CS) Act, 1996.
Registers the building and other construction workers as beneficiaries and extend the welfare schemes
Source of fund is 1% cess levied on cost of building and other construction works
Headed by CEO and Secretary

REGISTRATIONS & LICENSES:

Issuing of various Licences under

Implementation of Minimum Wages Act

The Officers of the department who have been notified as inspectors file claims before the authorities for difference in wages in case of payment of less wages noticed on inspections/complaints

Prevention of Child Labour

Implementation of child and adolescent labour prevention and regulation act
Actively coordinate with the relevant departments in the rehabilitation of the rescued children

Recognition of Trade Unions

Various unions are given recognitions as per the Trade Unions Act, 1926
The nodal office for application of recognition of trade unions is Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Mahabubnagar for the erstwhile districts

Employees Compensation

The Officers from Asst. Commissioner of Labour to the Commissioner of Labour have been notified as Commissioners for Employees Compensation under the Employees Compensation Act, 1923. They hear claims and award compensation in cases of accidental death or disability occurred in the course of employment.
