Horticulture has been identified as one of the “focus sectors” for development of the Wanaparthy district and state as well. Horticulture crops provide better alternative for diversification of Agriculture in view of horticulture as growth engine. The diversification of Agriculture is recognized as an important strategy to overcome the emerging challenges in Agriculture. Horticulture sector, commands a large employment potential by way of supporting a series of direct and indirect activities related to area development, nurseries, cultivation and farming, crop maintenance, products, post-harvest management, trading, storage, processing, transportation, marketing and distribution of Horticulture commodities and products.
The major soil type found in the district is red sandy soil. Red sandy soils occupy 47% of Geographical area. The share of sandy loams is 42% and that of Black Cotton soil is 11%.
Normal Annual Rainfall of the district is 468.00mm. According to National Agriculture Research Project classification, the district falls under Southern Telangana Zone.
