BRIEF INFORMATION:

Wanaparthy district is endowed with rich livestock resources characterized by subsidiary dairy animals, small dairy units, backyard poultry, specialized poultry farming, extensive sheep flock, often migratory system etc. Livestock plays an important role in improvement of rural Livelihood.

Institution Network:

The following Veterinary institutions are catering the needs of farmers in rural areas in providing animal health and productivity enhancement services besides implementing the Government schemes for the benefit of farmers.

201 Primary Sheep Breeders co-operative societies with 24500 members have been registered in Wanaparthy District and 180 sheds have been constructed in convergence with MGNREGS.

SHEEP REARING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME:

The Telangana Government implemented Sheep Rearing Development programme, under this programme (13890) sheep units distributed.

Insurance: Insurance claims were settled (482)

MILCH ANIMALS DISTRIBUTION SCHEME:

Telangana State Government Implemented the Milch Animals Distribution Scheme for the Vijaya Dairy farmers. Till date 532 Animals was distributed to the Telangana Vijaya Dairy Farmers. Insurance claims were settled (62).

NATIONWIDE ARTIFICIAL INSEMNINATION PROGRAMME:

3^rd Phase of NAIP was completed from 01.08.2021 to 31.07.2022, in this phase 13,394 Artificial Inseminations was done and 6702 farmers benefitted from this programme. 4^th Phase of NAIP will be implemented from 01.08.2022 to 31.07.2023.

SCHEMES:

• SHEEP & GOAT DEWORMING PRORGRAMME: Deworming programme was conducted from 08.06.2022 to 14.06.2022 in the district. 10,22,634 Sheep & Goats were dewormed in this programme.
• BLUE TONGUE: Blue Tongue Vaccination Programme was conducted from 19.07.2022 to 29.08.2022 in the district. 3,07,136 Sheep was vaccinated under this programme. 2,722 farmers were benefitted by this programme.
• ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION SERVICES: 30 Members of Gopalamitras are working in the district attached to Departmental Hospitals to provide Artificial Insemination Services to the farmers who are in the remote areas, and also one Mobile Veterinary Clinic (Vehicle) is working in the Constituency.
• FODDER DEVELOPMENT: During the year 2022-2023 Government has supplied 27.5 MT’s of CSH 24 MF Variety of Fodder Seed and 500 kgs of African Tall Maize Fodder Seed to the district on 75% Subsidy.
• VACCINATIONS IN LARGE ANIMALS: FMD Vaccination programme was conducted from 18.10.2021 to 12.12.2021. 1,17,200 Vaccinations done to Cattle & Buffalos in this programme.
• SHEEP & GOAT HEALTH CAMPS: Government has released the budget Rs.13.75 lakhs for organization of Sheep & Goat Health Camps in the district. Camps are conducting in the district.

THE MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF DEPARTMENT ARE:

• Improving the production potential by way of breed up gradation in Cattle and Buffaloes through Artificial Insemination.
• Providing preventive and curative health care to Livestock through constant vigil on disease outbreaks, rendering preventive vaccinations, de worming and treatment of ailing animals.
• Augmenting fodder production to meet the nutritional requirements of Livestock.
• Providing relief measures to livestock during natural calamities.
• Building awareness among farmers on profitable Livestock production.
• Coordinating with Health Department in controlling Diseases of Zoonotic importance.
• Providing technical support to Livestock based poverty alleviation programmes.

STAFF POSITION:

The Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department is serving the livestock holders with extensive institutional network besides utilizing the services of Gopalamitras. The Cadre strength and Vacancy position is detailed hereunder.

Wanaparthy is the home tract of Deccani breed of sheep which is well-known for its taste. Nellore and Bellary Sheep breeds are also reared in the district. Sheep breeding and rearing has the potential to offer employment to the landless labour, small and marginal farmers, nomadic and semi nomadic people etc. with little investments and with a potential of generation of quick returns. The products like skin, wool hair, various organs, intestines and almost all parts are value generating, if properly collected and used.

Majority of cattle and buffaloes in this district are non-descript and unproductive. To improve the productivity of the animals systematic efforts are being made through upgrading the non-descript buffaloes and crossbreeding of non-descript cattle by introduction of Artificial Insemination Programme.
