BRIEF INFORMATION:

Wanaparthy district is endowed with rich livestock resources characterized by dairy animals (medium and small dairy units), extensive sheep flock, backyard poultry, commercial poultry farms, often migratory system etc. Livestock plays an important role in improvement of rural Livelihood.

Major Departmental Activities of the Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department, Telangana

1. Treatment of Ailing Animals:

Providing timely diagnosis, medical treatment, surgical interventions, emergency veterinary care, and follow-up services to sick and injured livestock through Veterinary Hospitals, Dispensaries, Poly Clinics, Mobile Veterinary Clinics, and field veterinary institutions to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve livestock productivity.

2.Breed Improvement:

    • Genetic upgradation of cattle and buffaloes through Artificial Insemination (AI).
    • Promotion of superior germplasm and scientific breeding practices to enhance livestock productivity.

3. Veterinary Health Care

    • Providing preventive and curative health care services to livestock.
    • Diagnosis, treatment, surgery, emergency veterinary services, and disease surveillance.
    • Conducting regular vaccination and deworming programmes.

4. Disease Prevention and Control

    • Prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infectious and contagious animal diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, PPR, Blue Tongue, HS, BQ, etc.
    • Implementation of state and national vaccination programmes.

5. Feed and Fodder Development

    • Promoting cultivation of quality fodder crops.
    • Improving fodder availability and balanced feeding practices to increase livestock productivity.

6. Livestock Development

    • Increasing milk, meat, and egg production through scientific breeding, feeding, and management practices.
    • Supporting dairy, sheep, goat, and backyard poultry development programmes.

7. Extension and Farmer Awareness

    • Conducting farmer training programmes, awareness campaigns, and demonstrations on scientific livestock management.
    • Disseminating technical information to improve farmers’ income.

8. Relief During Natural Calamities

    • Providing emergency veterinary care, feed support, disease control, and rehabilitation of livestock affected by floods, droughts, or other disasters.

9. Zoonotic Disease Control

    • Coordinating with the Health Department for prevention and control of zoonotic diseases such as Rabies, Brucellosis, Anthrax, and Avian Influenza under the One Health approach.

10. Technical Support for Livelihood Programmes

    • Providing technical guidance for livestock-based poverty alleviation and self-employment programmes.
    • Supporting beneficiaries under various Government livestock development schemes.

11. Animal Welfare and Public Health

    • Promoting animal welfare measures.
    • Supporting stray dog vaccination and sterilization programmes.
    • Ensuring food safety through animal health certification and disease control.

SCHEMES:

  • 8th ROUND FMD VACCINATION PROGRAMME: Under NADCP, The 8th Round FMD Vaccination programme was conducted from 10.03.2026 to 10.05.2026 with 28 teams. (99,816) animals were vaccinated with FMD Vaccine covering 90% of its target population.
  • HS, BQ, ET VACCINATIONS PROGRAMME: These Vaccinations Programme was conducted from 06.2026 to 12.06.2026.
    1. HS: (7428) HS Vaccinations done covering 99% of its target population.
    2. BQ: (6842) BQ Vaccinations done covering 99% of its target populations.
    3. ET: (5,62,220) ET Vaccinations done in sheep & goat covering 99% of its target population
  • LSD VACCINATION PROGRAMME: Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) Vaccination program was conducted from 24.06.2026 to 08.07.2026. Under this program (42,779) vaccinations done in cattle population.
  • PPR VACCINATION PROGRAMME: PPR Vaccination program is being conducted from 14.07.2026 to 28.07.2026. Under this program (4,13,900) sheep & goats will be vaccinated with PPR Vaccine. As on 21.07.2026 (3,00,695) vaccinations were conducted, covering 73% of its target.
  • CSF VACCINATION PROGRAMME: Classical Swine Fever (CSF) Vaccination program is being conducted from 14.07.2026 to 28.07.2026. Under this program (6,000) pigs will be vaccinated with CSF Vaccine. As on 21.07.2026 (3,266) vaccinations were conducted, covering 54% of its target.
  • BLUE TONGUE VACCINATION PROGRAMME: Blue Tongue Vaccination program is scheduled in the month of August 2026. A total of (5,42,000) doses of the Blue Tongue vaccine have been supplied to the district. The vaccine have been distributed to all veterinary hospitals in the district and made available to farmers.
