Associate Dean- Prof (Dr.) D. Nagalakshmi:
The College of Fishery Science, Pebbair the only one of its kind in Telangana State, established on 4th December, 2017. It is a constituent college of P. V. Narsimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University, Hyderabad under the State Agricultural University system of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The mission of the college is to provide quality education for the production of professionally qualified and technically skilled manpower. College also undertakes research and extension programmes in fisheries and aquaculture to find solutions for the problems encountered by aqua farmers, fisher-folk and entrepreneurs of the state of Telangana. The main motto of all these activities is to alienate poverty and ascertain nutritional security of the people of the state, through overall development of the fisheries sector. Being an only fisheries institute, the college continues to play a key role in fisheries education, research and extension activities in the state.
The College offers Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) of four-year duration and generating 28 professionally qualified and technically skilled fisheries graduates every year. College has adopted ICAR Vth Deans Committee syllabus for B.F.Sc course curriculum.
The college has received two externally funded projects of worth 23.50 Lakh rupees and 3.81 Lakh rupees from NFDB and NCDC, Government of India.

The College has seven departments as per ICAR- Vth Deans committee recommendation and offering courses for B.F.Sc programme.

National Service Scheme (NSS):
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is operated in the college by NSS Programme Officer to develop the personality and character of the student through voluntary community service. As a part of NSS activity, students educate the villagers about the importance of health and hygiene for better living. The students make aware the villagers about the safe disposal of waste and take part in one of the identified work that the village needs immediate attention. The NSS wing of the College is organizing regular activities in the campus. During the programme, campus cleaning activities and plantation are taken up.
Placement Cell:
The College has placement cell managed by officer In-charge Placement cell for career guidance to Students for pursuing Higher Studies and various jobs. Wide publicity is given as and when various organizations approach the college for their requirement of graduates. All possible help is being extended to the graduates to find a suitable job. Campus interviews are also being arranged whenever required by the organizations.
Co-Curricular Activities:
In College of Fishery Science, Pebbair; Non-Credit courses are offered under Physical Education such as Swimming and Yoga during B.F.Sc. curriculum. There are different facilities of Sports available. All the facilities are provided for taking part in inter-class, Inter-college and inter- university sports and cultural activities to improve their hidden talents. Major National and State level festivals will be organized.
Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC):
In accordance with the UGC regulations to curb the menace of ragging, the college has formed an anti-ragging committee to prohibit, prevent and completely wipe out the menace of ragging from the campus.
Educational Tours:
Students are exposed to the practical aspects of fish and fisheries related activities by arranging Field Trips and Tours in our state as well as neighboring states.

Classrooms and Laboratory Facilities:
The college has 4 Classrooms equipped with projectors and one smart classroom for teaching using multimedia. The UG laboratories of each department are well established for conducting practical’s for students.
Library and Information Science:
The Library & Information Science of college of fishery science have more than 680 books. Access to e-journals, e-books, e-newspapers, CERA is given to students and staff. Students and staff can access e-resources of main library of PVNRTVU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad through remote log (using Login ID and Password). Newspapers, magazines are provided in the library to upkeep the students with everyday happenings. Library also has a section for books pertaining to preparation of Civil Service Exam and other competitive examinations.
Computer laboratory with Internet Facility:
The college is having well established separate computer laboratory and High speed BSNL – 40 MBPS NME Internet Facility for students and staff. The lab is provided with computers, printers for conducting practical classes and day-to-day use of students and staff.
Hostel Facilities:
The college is having separate hostels for Boys and Girls at the college campus and boarders are provided with hygienic and healthy food. The Newly constructed Boys Hostel (Arowana) and Girls Hostel (Meena) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Shri Talasani Srinivas Yadav garu and Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture, Shri. S. Niranjan Reddy garu at College of Fishery Science Pebbair on 21.09.2021 and 21.05.2022 respectively. The students are provided rooms with table, chairs, beds and almirahs for keeping their belongings. The students are also provided sports and games kit as a part of involving them in extra co-curricular activities. Both boys and girls hostels are kept neat and clean always. TV’s, CC cameras, First aid kits and fire extinguishers are provided in each hostel. Mess facility with kitchen, store room, washing area and separate room for mess staff is available. Boarding capacity of boys and girls hostels are 42 (14 rooms) and 60 (20 rooms) respectively.
Health Facilities:
Engaged part time Medical Officer to provide medical facility to the students and staff of the college on honorarium basis.
Fish Farm:
An Instructional Freshwater Fish Farm is constructed in the college campus in one acre area comprising of one nursery, one rearing, one grow-out pond. This farm can be effectively utilized for conducting UG practical classes and also for research, training activities and for Fisheries Work Experience Programme for final year B.F.Sc students.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
- Upon completion of B.F.Sc degree, students will be qualified to work as Fisheries Development Officers (FDO) in Telangana state recruited by Department of Fisheries, Government of Telangana.
- Agriculture Field officers in Nationalized Banks of India selected through IBPS exam.
- Technical officers in state/central fishery institutions like MPEDA, EIA, FSI etc.
- The B.F.Sc graduated students are eligible to write various civil service examinations.
- Students can pursue higher studies in Fisheries science i.e M.F.Sc in ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai and other state agriculture / veterinary universities by securing good rankings in ICAR – PG entrance examination conducted every year by ICAR.
- The B.F.Sc graduates are having bright future in private sector like Fish / shrimp culture, Fish / Shrimp hatcheries, Processing plants, Feed industries, Ornamental industry both in India and abroad as General Manager, Fisheries Technologist, Production Manager, Quality control Manager, Marketing executive etc.
- Post graduates are eligible for ARS Scientist/Asst. Prof. in central / state organizations and universities.
- The course offers a great scope for the students for self-employment by establishing own farm / hatchery / processing plant, aquaria units, etc.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Ten students of first BFSc batch (2017-2021) secured good rankings in ICAR – PG entrance examination and pursuing MFSc in ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai and other state agriculture / veterinary universities.
- Four students of first B.F.Sc batch (2017-2021) selected in different private enterprises.
- Six students of second BFSc batch (2018-2022) secured good rankings in ICAR – PG entrance examination and pursuing MFSc in state agriculture / veterinary universities in India and two students went to Australia for master’s in aquaculture.
- Medals/prizes rewarded by students: Two students received prizes in English G20 summit essay writing competition and elocution competition in state level at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad by Hon’ble Governor of Telangana.
