Office of the Assistant Director of Mines and Geology, Wanaparthy:
The Office of the Assistant Director of Mines and Geology, Wanaparthy, was established vide G.O.Ms.No.328, Industries & Commerce (Mines) Department, dated 11.10.2016. Since its establishment, the office has been carrying out the functions entrusted to the Department of Mines and Geology.
About the Department:
The Department of Mines and Geology is the Geological and Mineral Resources Administration wing of the State Government. The Department is primarily responsible for the promotion, regulation and sustainable development of mineral resources in the State.
The major functions of the Department are broadly classified into:
- Promotion of mineral resources
- Regulation of mineral activities
- Collection of mineral revenue
Promotional Activities:
The promotional activities of the Department include mineral investigation and exploration of mineral deposits in coordination with agencies such as the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL).
Regulatory Activities:
The Department regulates mineral activities includes identification of mineral blocks, grant of mineral concessions, extraction, transportation, selling, stocking and trading of minerals.
The Department also takes necessary measures to prevent and control illegal and unauthorized mining, quarrying and transportation of minerals.
Stringent action is taken against illegal mining and quarrying, unauthorized transportation, possession and stocking of minerals, as per the provisions of the relevant Acts and Rules.
Mineral Revenue:
The Department collects mineral revenue in the form of Seigniorage Fee, Dead Rent, other statutory amounts as prescribed by the Government from time to time against extraction and transportation of minerals.
District Mineral Foundation (DMF)
As per the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015, the Department collects contributions towards the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) from leaseholders.
The DMF funds are utilized for the interest and benefit of people and areas affected by mining or mining-related operations and for the sustainable development of such areas.
State Mineral Exploration Trust (SMET):
The Department also collects contributions towards the State Mineral Exploration Trust (SMET) from leaseholders. The funds are utilized for identification, exploration and development of mineral resources in the State.
