Brief introduction about the Department:

    Irrigation & CAD Department of Telangana State is making every effort to harness and utilize all the available water resources for the benefit of Agricultural sector, Industrial Sector and also providing drinking water for overall development.

    The main objective of Irrigation Department in Telangana is to create irrigation potential in the drought prone areas, upland areas and upkeep of the existing projects to enhance the agriculture productivity per unit of water with increased water use efficiency.

Schemes and activities of the Department:

Rajiv Bhima Lift Irrigation Scheme Project (RBLISP):

Rajiv Bhima Lift Irrigation Scheme envisages providing irrigation facility to 2,03,000 Acres (1,11,000 Acres under Lift-I & 92,000 Acres under Lift-II) for lifting 20 TMC of water from Priyadarshini Jurala Project covering 3 districts viz., Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Nagarkurnool District. Under this project 91,144 acres contemplated in Wanaparthy District.

Priyadarshini Jurala Project – Left Main Canal:

Priyadarshini Jurala Project was constructed across river Krishna between Revulapally village (Dharoor Mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal District) and Nandimalla village (Amarachintha mandal of Wanaparthy Distirct) to utilize 17.84 TMC of water to irrigate an ayacut of 1,04,124 acres under Left Main Canal and Right Main Canal. The Left Main Canal lying in the drought prone mandals of Amarachintha, Atmakur, Kothakota, Madanapur, Pebbair, Srirangapur, Weepanagandla, Chinnambaavi mandals of under Wanaparthy District & Pentlavelly mandal of Nagarkurnool District on Left Flank (Ac 73639-06 Gt) and  Irrigation potential is created for the entire ayacut.

Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme:

Distributary-01 off-takes from Package 29 main canal at chainage of Km.0.436 and runs for length of 7.503Km and aycaut is 2220 Acres. Mandals covered under canal are Nagarkurnool and Revally

Distributary-05 off-takes from Package 29 main canal at chainage of Km.6.210 and runs for length of 11.882 Km and ayacut is 14366 Acres. Mandals covered under this canal are Gopalpet, Revally, Peddakothapally and Kodair.

Distributary-08 is off-takes from Package 29 main canal at chainage of Km.11.643 and runs for length of 34.40KM and ayacut is 23032 acres. Mandals covered under this canal are Wanaparthy, Gopalpet, Revally, Pangal, Kodair, Nagarkurnul and Bijinepally.

Ghanpur Branch canal off takes from Package 29 main canal at Chainage of Km.37.30 and runs for a length of 24.575 Km and ayacut is 25285 acres. Mandals covered under this canal are Ghanpur, Addakal, Bhoothpur and Bijinepally.

Karne Thanda Lift Irrigation Scheme off takes from Ghanpur Branch canal at Chainage Km.7.580 and ayacut proposed is 4235 acres and mandals covered under this scheme are Ghanpur, Peddamandadi, Wanaparthy &  Bijinepally.

Buddaram Right Main Canal off takes from Pedda cheruvu of Buddaram Village, Gopalpet Mandal and runs for a length of 26.775 Km and ayacut proposed is 20674 Acres. Mandals covered under this canal are Peddamandadi, Wanaparthy and Ghanpur.

Buddaram Left Main Canal is off takes from Pedda cheruvu of Buddaram Village, Gopalpet Mandal and runs for a length of 16.625 Km and ayacut proposed is 10384 Acres. Mandals covered under this canal are Wanaparthy and Gopalpet.

Pasupula Branch Canal of Package -28 runs from Chainage Km.19.182 to Km.33.794. D2 canal of Pasupula Branch canal runs for a length of 6.865Km and ayacut proposed is 6200 Acres. D5 canal of Pasupula Branch canal runs for a length of 13.375 Km and ayacut proposed is 5400 Acres.

Minor Irrigation Tanks:

There are 1258no.s of Minor Irrigation Tanks in Wanaparthy District which provide irrigation to an ayacut of 66,362 acres.

IDC Schemes:

There are 22no.s of IDC schemes in Wanaparthy district which provide irrigation facilities to 56931Acres. Peruru Lift Irrigation Scheme in Madanapur Mandal and Karne Thanda lift Irrigation Scheme in Ghanpur mandal are under construction.

Target allocation and achievements:

The proposed ayacut under this Khariff season is 1,36,643 acres and filling of enrouted minor irrigation tanks.

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT:

1. Hydrological assessment of availability of water in the river basins including water allocation to the Irrigation and other purposes.
2. Planning & design of Irrigation systems.
3. Construction of new projects to create irrigation potential for economic development of the state.
4. Stabilization of existing ayacut by rehabilitation of the age-old projects.
5. Modernization of age old Major & Medium Irrigation projects.
6. Improve water management and water use efficiency by integrated and coordinated efforts by all line departments.
7. Preparation and implementation of operation and maintenance plans for existing Irrigation projects.
8. Flood management.
9. Restoration and maintenance of flood banks.
10. Irrigated area assessment and assessment of water royalty charges for industrial and other utilization.
11. Presentation of data & analysis on water availability, utilization of Interstate river basins, presenting the information to the respective tribunals.
12. Exploration of new project commands.
